Rekha Gupta was named as Delhi’s latest Chief Minister on Wednesday and now is caught in an internet uproar because of old messages she posted on sites like X (formerly Twitter). In these messages, Gupta used sharp words and funny images to go after former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Supporters are using these posts to poke fun at Kejriwal's loss in the recent elections, while critics highlight the rude tone of Gupta’s earlier comments.
Gupta is a first-time MLA from BJP who has been openly against Kejriwal for some time. Her supporters from BJP defend her tough language, saying it shows her solid position against AAP. Yet many AAP backers and political figures have slammed the way Gupta talks. Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose also called out Guadalupe for what she calls "mean words" and "chaos," saying that previous leaders like Sheila Dixit and Sushma Swaraj had more calm ways.
In answer to this backlash, some users online stood up for Gupta claiming her words were directed at corrupt officials within politics. YouTuber Tushar Gupta said that criticism arises since she dared to take on Kejriwal when AAP was doing really well.
